THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EUPHEMIZATION OF SPEECH*

Abstract. Increasing interest in the phenomenon of euphemia has been observed in recent decades. Euphemisms are widely spread in all spheres of interpersonal communication, they are used in fiction, advertising, in the media, etc. Intensive spread of this linguistic phenomenon in literature and journalism of the 21st century is associated with the growing influence of the media, the impact of the phenomenon of political correctness, the development of new channels of communication. At different times such domestic and international linguists as G. Paul, A. Meillet, J. Fraser, D. K. Zelenin, R. Holder, L. A. Bulakhovsky, B. A. Larin, A. M. Katsev, J. S. Neaman, C. G. Silver were engaged in researching the issue of euphemisms.
