Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of precedent units in the context of the historical development of weapons production in the Tula region. It also includes the analysis and identification of the features of proper names, which have moved into the category of precedent names. The object of the study is precedent names that reflect the regional identity of the Tula region. The author aims to prove that precedent names are a cultural and historical reflection of the changing reality in the regional aspect. To analyse and gather information, the author considers the works of prominent local lore scholars and historians such as I. N. Yurkin, V. A. Kubatkin, S. Zybin, A. I. Valter, as well as prominent philologists – Yu. N. Karaulov, D. B. Gudkov, V. A. Maslova, G. V. Tokarev. In selecting language material, the author has been guided by features such as frequency of use and pronounced connotative nature. The relevance of the research lies in the insufficiently studied precedent names as linguocultural units based on the materials of the Tula armory. The article will be relevant to the philologists as well as anyone with a keen interest in the language and history of the Tula region.
Keywords: regional identity, language, culture, linguistic personality, precedent names, linguoculturology, markers.
