Abstract. The article deals with a special kind of linguocultural units - key cultural signs. The research is car-ried out by the methods of psycholinguistic experiment, interviewing, and linguocultural interpreta-tion. The article reveals that the key signs are the linguocultural units, actualized by public con-sciousness, which reflect commonplace ideas about reality. The paper finds that the meanings of key signs are understandable for the members of the linguocultural community, so they form the basis of regional identity. They are based on stereotypes, stable perceptions and linguocultural legends. The article highlights that the meanings of key signs reflect the cultural experience of an individual. The paper proves that the key signs have a wide range of denotative relevance. They objectify ide-ologemes, as they reflect the axiology of a particular cultural paradigm. The article considers several groups of key signs associated with educational institutions, businesses, well-known people's names and socially significant objects.
Keywords: language, regional culture, keyword, simbolary, naive worldview, Tula.
