Abstract. The review article tells about the long-term research work of the Tula historian Sergey
Pavlovich Goryushkin. One of the results of this work is the publication of the book "People of the Aleksin land...". The review focuses on the informational significance of the book, its scientific and reference nature, the reliability of the material presented, based on recognized archival sources, including
cadastres, economic notes to the ordnance survey plan, remembrance books, etc. As a result,
S. P. Goryushkin managed to collect personal information about almost three thousand residents of the
Aleksinskiy district (late 18th – early 20th centuries), to compile thematically valuable appendix lists
and amendment. The study, originally conceived as local history, has acquired a scientific significance
far beyond the geographical boundaries of its region.
Keywords: Aleksin, Aleksin district, S. P. Goryushkin, alphabetic list of names, Tula province.
