Abstract. Sentences with the coordinating conjunction A express, along with adversative and comparative relations, also relations of adjunction. Iranian university-based students of Russian as a foreign language perceive the conjunction A only as a conjunction of explicit adversative meaning, and
therefore, when translated into their native language, they use its equivalents - the adversatives اما
[amma], ولی] vali], and بلکه] balke]. The purpose of this comparative study is to identify all possible explicit and implicit meanings of the Russian conjunction A and its ways of representing them in the Persian language. The article presents all possible ways of representing explicit and implicit meanings of
the conjunction A in the Russian language in the Persian language. The authors identified the verbalization of these meanings with the help of explanatory dictionaries of the Russian language. As a result
of the study, the authors reveal that the explicit meaning of the conjunction A as adjunctive, comparative and adversative relations is conveyed in Persian by its direct equivalents, namely Persian adversative and adversative conjunctions. However, in the case of the use of the conjunction A of connecting,
adversative and comparative relations in implicit meanings, the methods of their representation differ,
and are conveyed in Persian using various kinds of combinations of words, conjunctions and particles.
Keywords: conjunction A, implicit and explicit meanings, Russian as a foreign language, Persian language, equivalents.
