Abstract. The article deals with the study of A. N. Karpov's beekeeping dictionary. The main method of research is description. In the course of the study, the author determines that the vocabulary in the dictionary consists of various parts of speech that receive linguistic characteristics: stress, an indication of a part of speech, in nouns – gender, in verbs – aspect and transitivity. The vocabulary is diverse and from the point of view of the sphere of distribution contains the following units: terms, functional lexis, nomenclatures, jargonism, colloquialisms. The author establishes that Karpov uses lexicography techniques typical for the linguistic presentation of the material. The macrostructure of the dictionary comes from the form. The distinctive features of the dictionary are: alphabetical order of the material presentation, specific polysemy of terms (a separate dictionary entry for each meaning), use of linguistic terms in interpretations. Also the dictionary includes units from different historical eras and uses various types of semantics. The author defines the dominants of branch consciousness represented by special words: matka (mother bee), myod (honey), paseka (apiary), pchela (bee), roy (cluster of bees). The dictionary contains cultural information about the structure of Russian life, household management. The author interprets symbols based on the nominations of the lexicographed field. Various publications have become the empirical base of the dictionary: scientific monographs, encyclopedias, periodicals, educational literature, dictionaries of Russian Don dialects, Russian folk dialects, Russian language of the 19th century, Russian language of the 20th century, modern Russian standard language. The author summarizes that A. N. Karpov's beekeeping dictionary is a unique multidimensional work. The book combines the features of encyclopedic and linguistic approaches, thereby presenting an amalgam of scientific and naive worldviews. The wide coverage of the material, the inclusion of various functional and semantic orientation words, grammatical affiliation allows us to characterize the dictionary as a thesaurus of specialist vocabulary. The dictionary has a laconism characteristic of the scientist's idiosyncrasy. The originality and success of the book are due to the fact that Alexander Nikolayevich reflected in his dictionary two lines of his life – a hobby (passion for beekeeping) and a profession (language learning).
Keywords: specialist vocabulary, beekeeping, term, functional lexis, jargon, dictionary, thesaurus.
