Abstract. This article present the results of research into the use of the verb ‘to sit’ with space semantics as a trope in artistic and journalistic spheres, as well as in electronic communication. The objectives of the study are to investigate the presence / absence of signs of immutability, fixity in the positional verb ‘to sit’ as part of hyperbole, as well as the change / preservation of space semantics in this
verb as a result of the action of the metaphorization mechanism. The results of an individual’s interaction with the surrounding reality are perceptual images, which are the basis of the metaphorization
process. This study examines their verbalization through hyperboles. One of the most significant elements of the metaphorization process in this case is the individual's acquisition of new types of experience due to changes in socio-political, cultural, historical, and economic living conditions. This circumstance is most representative in the artistic sphere of functioning of the considered type of
hyperboles studied in this paper. The author provides evidence that hyperbole, an element of which is
a verb ‘to sit’ with space semantics can function as an independent trope, and also interact with its
other types (in this paper - with personification, metaphor and comparison). The analysis of the presented linguistic material makes it possible to establish that as a result of the metaphorization cognitive mechanism action as part of hyperbole, the space meaning of the lexeme ‘to sit’ and its forms
changes to a non-spatial one. In conclusion, the meanings of the positional verb ‘to sit’ as part of a hyperbole indicate the identity of the semantic dominant of the feature of fixity, immutability in this verb
as a trope (hyperbole element) and as a non-trope.
Keywords: metaphorization, hyperbole, space, verb, fixity.
