Abstract. This article raises the issues of the lexical-thematic (ideographic) presentation of the creative heritage of the Russian writer and memoirist Andrei Timofeevich Bolotov. Thematic blocks of vocabulary, their content and originality in the works of Bolotov (and in particular in his "Notes...") have
not been studied and require detailed and versatile research. This article is structured in accordance
with the language material selected from the literary text and taking into account the tasks of its scientific interpretation. The aim of the research is to try to prepare a basis for the typology of the lexical
composition of Bolotov's "Notes..." as a whole, having examined one fragment of the potential field of
systematization - zoonymic vocabulary.
Bolotov's memoir notes are not considered entirely: they are limited to fragments verified by the
author himself for printing, covering 1737 – 1796; the period of the 18th century. The fragments available in manuscripts and fragmentarily published after the death of the author without processing, dating
back to the 10s. 19th century, left outside the boundaries of research for stylistic and chronological reasons (since the subject of study is the lexical picture of the 18th century). General examination of the text
of "Notes..." shows that Bolotov, when creating his memoirs, widely used thematically very diverse vocabulary related to all presented in the language of the 18th century stylistic registers. Common speech,
high vocabulary of the archaic type, interstyle ("mediocre") vocabulary, paremias, onyms become the
subject of direct analysis.
The named lexical phenomena in the thematic zoonymic lexical sphere are presented not only in a
qualitative, but also in a quantitative aspect (when compared with other types of vocabulary in the
"Notes ...", as well as in the language of that time). The authors highlight and describe the internal features of the studied lexical group. The article presents the division of lexemes-zoonyms into semantic
classes depending on their textual semantics. Particular attention is paid to polysemantic zoonyms
against the background of the vocabulary of the end of the 18th century and in the prospect of their
semantic dynamics. The work characterizes Zoonyms with ameliorative, neutral (leveled) and pejorative connotative meaning from different angles. The textual examples become the necessary theoretical
reasoning base.
The study demonstrates that some of the zoonyms lexemes can acquire a metaphorical character or
become part of the composition of comparisons, which indicates their potential metaphoricity. On the
basis of lexicographic and corpus analysis, it is established that Bolotov, like other Russian writers at
the turn of the 18th – 19th centuries, semantically enriched many zoonymic lexemes. The article defines
in which compositional and semantic blocks of "Notes..." with what relative frequency there are lexemes-zoonyms. On the basis of the systematization of the material, the authors come up with an idea
that in the text of "Notes..." by A. T. Bolotov's zoonymic vocabulary is similar in function to the means of
artistic expression. It is stated that the most frequent discursive zones of zoonymic vocabulary in
"Notes..." by A. T. Bolotov are purely narrative parts devoted to human economic activity.
