Аннотация. Цель работы заключается в рассмотрении проблемы появления тяжеловооруженной пехоты в составе македонского войска. Определено, что к эпохе правления Пердикки II в македонской армии отсутствовала собственная тяжелая пехота, а потребность в данном роде войск по возможности удовлетворялась посредством привлечения к участию в боевых действиях живших на территории царства Аргеадов греков и наемников. Эта ситуация сложилась из-за особенностей социально-экономического положения Македонии, где не было достаточного количества жителей, способных приобрести дорогое гоплитское снаряжение. Однозначно интерпретируемые сведения о появлении македонской тяжеловооруженной пехоты относятся к начальному периоду правления Филиппа II, снабдившего своих воинов соответствующим вооружением и обучившего их действовать в строю фаланги. Достаточно часто на основании некоторых данных Фукидида и Анаксимена предполагается, что македонские цари Александр I, Архелай или Александр II могли осуществить реформы, направленные на создание собственного корпуса тяжелых пехотинцев. Тем не менее, используемые для обоснования подобных выводов античные сообщения допускают и иные трактовки, не предусматривающие внедрения тяжеловооруженной пехоты в состав македонской армии. Наличие этого рода войска никак не прослеживается и в событиях военной истории дофилипповского времени. В результате рассмотрения проблемы констатируется, что македонская тяжеловооруженная пехота в тот период могла быть представлена лишь небольшим отрядом, входящим в личную гвардию монарха и не способным существенно влиять на ход боевых действий. Настоящим создателем фаланги как важной части македонской военной системы следует считать Филиппа II, а не кого-либо из его предшественников.
