Abstract. The article is devoted to the study and consideration of the source spheres of precedent names of the Tula region in order to determine the features and typical features characteristic of the background knowledge of the city’s inhabitants in a profane (naive) aspect. The solution of this problem is important for the study of the linguocultural Tula text. The objectives of the study are to compile a symbolary of culturally labelled precedential units reflecting the values of the Tula region, as well as to develop a dictionary of language units representing regional characteristics. The study revealed the dominant cognitive thematic groups: “Defense of the Fatherland”, “Industry” and “Spiritual Life”. The study establishes that the process of formation of these concept spheres is associated with the predominant activities of the inhabitants of the region: weapons, culture, industrial plants, participation in defensive and offensive military operations. Using the example of the Tula region symbolary, the author of the article shows significant precedent names and provides their characteristics and typical features. The interpretation of empirical material allowed us to systematize knowledge about precedent names and present them in the form of a dictionary entry. The materials obtained will be useful for working on a linguocultural dictionary, as well as for reconstructing a model of regional culture.
Keywords: precedent names, source spheres, Tula region, regional identity, symbolary of culture, thesaurus.
