Аннотация. В статье рассматривается проблема происхождения продромов, являвшихся особой частью кавалерийского контингента македонской армии времен великих завоеваний IV в. до н.э. Анализ данных письменной традиции, освещающих полководческую деятельность Александра Великого, позволяет заключить, что продромы были легкими кавалеристами, на которых возлагались задачи, связанные с разведкой и преследованием противника. Вместе с тем наличие у продромов длинных копий-сарисс обеспечивало их высокую эффективность в прямых военных столкновениях с вооруженными дротиками всадниками и не имеющими длиннодревкового оружия пехотинцами. Подтверждается это особой ролью продромов в масштабных сражениях при Гранике и Гавгамелах. Определяется, что данный тип конницы имелся в распоряжении Александра уже на начальном этапе его правления и, очевидно, входил в состав македонского войска, доставшегося будущему завоевателю Азии в наследство после смерти его отца. Именно с преобразованиями Филиппа II может быть связано появление подвижных, но экипированных длинными копьями всадников. Эта новация была осуществлена посредством усвоения опыта Афин, где присутствовал особый корпус легкой кавалерии авангарда, а также через заимствование элементов военной практики пеонов, подвижные всадники которых в период Восточного похода, как правило, использовались вместе с македонскими продромами, и, судя по всему, также вооружались длинными ударными копьями. К осознанию целесообразности создания подразделений продромов, сочетающих в себе мобильность легкой кавалерии и высокий атакующий потенциал, Филиппа, видимо, подтолкнули особенности ведения военных кампаний на фракийском направлении, где противник активно использовал методы «малой войны», имея в качестве основы вооруженных сил конных дротометателей и пельтастов.
